Local Information

1) Venue

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, dating back to pre-Roman times. It is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery). Lisbon has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. In June the average temperature during the day is 20ºC (60ºF).

The University of Lisbon was originally founded by King Dinis in 1290, but moved to Coimbra in 1537. The present University of Lisbon was re-founded in 1911.

The venue of JAF35 is Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (Faculty of Sciences - University of Lisbon). See map for its location.

Inside Faculdade de Ciências, go to Departamento de Matemática, C6 building (the white building in the end), room 6.2.33. See the attached map of the campus, where unfortunately the location of C6 is not quite correct. It should be where C5 is, directly in front of the street between Faculty of Letters and Torre do Tombo.

To reach Faculdade de Ciências or the hotels from the airport, taxi is a good option and relatively inexpensive (~15 minutes, ~10 euros). Metro (underground/subway) is also a possibility (~35 minutes, ~1.50 euros).

Nearest metro stations: Cidade Universitária (yellow line) and Campo Grande (green/yellow lines).

2) Hotels

There are several hotels within walking distance or short metro ride from the conference venue.
